A true believer in continuing education, Ricardo regularly attends local and international conferences and seminars such as those organized by International Legal Training (New York), International Tax Planning Association, International Bar Association, IBFD in Amsterdam and the American Bar Association, which deal with topics related to international transactions, tax planning, due diligence, asset protection, among many others. He has recently participated in a refresher course in International Tax Law at the prestigious Maastricht University.

Previously with Greenberg Traurig LLP in the Federal Administrative and Regulatory Law Practice Group, Anthony Robinson advises manufacturers and distributors (including direct sales companies employing multi-level marketing strategies) of dietary supplements, natural health products, products containing CBD oils, conventional foods and Beverages in regulatory, corporate and intellectual property matters. With a focus on international trade, Anthony advises clients on regulatory requirements and strategic corporate considerations affecting the import, export, and distribution of consumer packaged products, including expansion to Latin America through the Republic of Panama. Anthony is a citizen of the Republic of Panama and the United States, and has extensive experience in supporting companies doing business in Central and South America.

Prior to joining CLD Legal, Anthony earned his MBA from the Darden Graduate School of Business Administration in 2002, and later worked as an investment banker and corporate finance for Banc of America Securities LLC (Debt Capital Markets / Syndications) and Wachovia Securities (banking coverage in the areas of Equity Capital Markets, Leverage Finance and M&A). Anthony was on the Wachovia team that executed the IPO of Ruth's Chris Steakhouse in August 2005. With an IPO of $ 235 million, the IPO of Ruth's Chris Steak House was the richest IPO of a restaurant company at the time since the Domino's Pizza IPO in July. 2004.

Most recently, Mr. Robinson gained extensive experience as General Counsel for a manufacturer and distributor of dietary supplements, where he was responsible for managing major areas of legal risk for companies in the health and wellness industries, including litigation. , regulatory compliance, intellectual property and contracts.

Anthony has presented at trade shows in Canada and Latin America on legal, regulatory, and trade considerations for manufacturers and distributors seeking to increase profits and protect internal risk through international expansion in the Americas. Additionally, he has published articles in US and international trade magazines on the legal status of cannabis and CBD in the Republic of Panama.

Anthony focuses on:

  • The regulation of dietary supplements and healthy foods in Latin America and the Caribbean, including the labeling of food products.
  • International distribution of dietary and nutritional supplements, specifically the logistical and commercial capacities in the Republic of Panama (that is, the Colon Free Zone and other Panamanian economic zones).
  • Obtaining USDA / AHPIS permits for the importation and / or transportation of controlled materials, agencies and to achieve government certification of origin (that is, from ANVISA and MAPA of Brazil).
  • Preparation of national and cross-border agreements in Spanish, including manufacturing, distribution, license and supply agreements.
  • Advice on trademark clearance, trademark processing, domains and copyrights in the US and internationally.
  • Representing clients in trademark proceedings before the Trademark Trials and Appeals Board and in domain name dispute proceedings.
  • Assessment of legality of multi-tier compensation plans after Herbal Life, Vemma, BurnLounge, and recent FTC guidance.
  • International expansion of MLM operations to the Republic of the Philippines, and the interpretation and application of the Philippine Consumer Law (Republic Law 7394) and the regulations of the Philippine Department of Commerce and Industry.
  • The FDA's implementation of the Food Safety Modernization Act ("FSMA") and the application of Current Good Manufacturing Practices (CGMP) to manufacturers of dietary and nutritional supplements.
  • Review labeling, advertising and marketing materials to ensure compliance with the Food Drug and Cosmetic Act and other applicable state and federal statutes and regulations, with a particular focus on sports nutrition and wellness companies.

My role as a Jr. Lawyer mainly involved the development of Intellectual Property strategies for small entrepreneurs, with the purpose of impacting their growth and expansion through their intangible assets. Among my tasks were to carry out trademark registrations in Panama and the United States, copyright registrations and patent registration in Panama, as well as the drafting of specialized contracts, such as: licenses, assignments, commissioned work, among others.

Another part of my job at AROC was to participate and lead the negotiation of strategic alliances for educational programs created by the firm.
